Think, Talk, Make Art [TTMA] created in-school art galleries in nine primary schools, in West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Artworks were selected from Arts Council Collection [ACC] and Cornwall Council Schools Art Collection and formed the focus for an eighteen-month programme of continued professional development with non-art specialist, primary teachers.
The design of the project was integral to its success, employing a pedagogical approach rather than knowledge based. In Year 1 the principle of playful learning driving critical discussion was applied, encouraging creativity and ideas through making and encouraging responses to artworks with imagination and emotion. Newlyn Art Gallery & The Exchange has over recent years developed a way of working which is organic and responsive, with no set outcomes at the start. We were keen to apply this principal to TTMA, firmly believing that extraordinary things would happen this way.
