In celebration of Cornwall’s rich textile heritage, artist Vicki Aimers is leading a series of FREE practical textile workshops with regional museums, investigating the skills and techniques employed to produce some of the intriguing textile items in their collections.

CONSTRUCT: Use embroidery to celebrate the quiet subversions and personalisations of the seamstress, inspired by the deconstructed half-jacket sampler by Ellen Sully.

BORDER: Taking Caroline Woolcock’s beautiful pictorial sampler as your starting point, create your own stitched border from scrap fabric, embellishments, stamped words and stitched marks.

ST AGNES MUSEUM AT THE MINERS & MECHANICS INSTITUTE
SPOT: Taking the museum’s motif samplers as your starting point, create a simple ink stamp pattern for plain fabric. Embellish the design with stitches, giving it a simple sewn border.
