FLIGHT AND STONE

Mark Surridge creates still-life observational paintings that explore the relationships between colour, form, and composition. His works feel immediate, with a strong emphasis on colour contrast – juxtaposing bright natural tones with vivid synthetic hues. He collects elements from the surrounding landscape, including sea-weathered plastics, plants, feathers, and stones, which he carefully curates and arranges in his studio to form harmonious compositions. Through his work, Mark seeks an alternative vision of beauty, addressing themes of environmental degradation, the shifting ecology, and the complex, often ambiguous relationship between humanity and the natural world.
